Nutella or Peanut Butter?!

Fun fact: Did you know it takes 540 peanuts to make 1 jar of peanut butter & 54 hazelnuts to make a jar of Nutella?!

Which is Healthier?

While peanut butter and nutella have almost the same amount of calories, peanut butter is much more nutritionally dense. It's richer in healthy fats, protein, and much lower in sugar. This is what will keep you full longer! Peanut butter also goes well with many foods, such as celery, apples, rice cakes, oatmeal, smoothies, etc. Overall, peanut butter is a nutritious food, but, it's important to stick to the serving size, as it can definitely be high in calories.

Though nutella and peanut butter have the same amount of calories, a lot of the calories in nutella comes from sugar (approx 12g sugar in 1 tbsp, which is about 3-4 tsp of sugar). For weight loss, I would recommend Nutella as a treat on occasion (possibly with a fruit, or rice cake), while sticking to 1tbsp or less.

What to look for in Peanut Butter?

  • Peanuts as the first and main ingredient

  • The less ingredients, the better in peanut butter!

  • Look for a peanut butter with no added sugar, which means, no added syrups, honey, etc.

  • No added hydrogenated oils. Hydrogenated oils add extra calories, and can have adverse health effects.

Here are some of my favorites:

  1. Justins Classic Peanut Butter: (i also like the small packets to keep in my purse but only buy it on sale because it can be pricey lol!)

  2. Trader Joes Creamy Organic Peanut butter

  3. 365 Organic Peanut Butter

I hope this helps!!!
